"I can confirm that this soap does exactly what it's supposed to do: make me clean. It's like magic, but without the wizardry. Now if only it could also do my laundry and dishes, I'd be set for life!"

About
Soap making is a relatively simple process that involves only 3 ingredients: Oils, NaOH, and water
When mixed they undergo a reaction called Saponification, that converts the oils into Soap molecules + Glycerin. Make sure to check out our blog on why glycerin is such an important byproduct in the soap making process.
To make soap, you must use the precise amounts of oils, and NaOH, and water to completely convert the Sodium Hydroxide in the reaction. To figure out precisely how much oils, NaOH, and water needed, you can use the total mass of your oils used as the limiting reagent in the Saponification reaction. Soap calculators are available, with SoapCalc.net being the most popular around that make this process much easier.
Be sure to check out The Soapy Saga Blogs for more history, science, and tips on how to store your homemade soap!
Nablus Soap Factory
Check out how soap is made from at the Nablus Soap Factory in Palestine
Soaps are very coveted in the Middle East for their cleaning and healing properties. Two places most famous for their soaps are Palestine and Syria. Palestine is famous for it's white Castile Soap (100% olive oil soap), that lends an extremely creamy and moisturizing lather. Aleppo soap from Syria is known for its addition of a special oil from the Laurel Berry (from the same plant where we also get the Bay Leaf), and known for its medicinal properties. Every oil will lend its own unique characteristics and properties to the final bar of soap, and will result in different levels of lather, creaminess, moisturizing, and cleaning abilities. An experienced soap maker must use the right oils and balance out all these properties for the best bar of soap.
